This will help him learn to associate the word with really great things, so he'll keep coming back. [onscreen action] Woman putting treats in pocket. Woman petting cat and giving him treats [narrator] Keep a handful of treats in your pocket for a few days. Any time your cat walks over to you without you calling him, give him a treat. Do this for about a week, and your cat will quickly figure out that hanging out near you is very rewarding. For the first few weeks, continue to reward your cat every time he walks up to you on his own. Think about the times you know your cat will come to you, like when you come home from work or when you feed him. Have some treats ready, and as your cat is walking toward you, say come, even though he's already on his way. Once your cat arrives at your feet, say yes and immediately reward him with treats, petting, catnip, or playtime with you. [onscreen action] Woman calling cat, giving him treats. [narrator] After a few weeks, start to call your cat's name when he's nearby. When he looks at you, say come. As he approaches, say yes and make sure to reward him. Soon you'll be able to fade out the treats, and your cat will come to you just for your hugs.
